One of the key pieces of advice we can give to training contract applicants is to spend plenty of time doing research into the legal profession and law careers. Not only should this involve an in depth look at all areas of the Trainee Solicitor Surgery website, but also include spending time on the other leading law careers websites. One website we would recommend checking out is All About Careers (www.allaboutcareers.com). This is what they have to say about themselves:
All About Careers is a social careers information website for 16-24 year olds, spanning 24 different sectors. The overriding principle of AllAboutCareers is that choosing a career shouldn’t be confusing and tedious. Careers information should be informative, authoritative, insightful, thought-provoking and entertaining, but, most of all, the process of obtaining that information should be quick, easy and hassle-free.
All About Careers started life as All About Law which was set up by two recent graduates who were fed up with the information on offer for law graduates. Although it has now expanded to reach 24 different sectors, and various age groups, it still has a special place in its heart for Law, and focusses strongly on it. It still operates its standalone site, AllAboutLaw.co.uk and offers a plethora of useful tools for law students.
For example, If you create a career profile, you won’t have to wade through tons and tons of information that isn’t relevant to your particular interests. You can tell them exactly what interests you and your customised Noticeboard will do the rest. It’s a dynamic careers information tool that feeds all the relevant information, articles, blogs, messages, industry news, forum threads, events information and application deadline alerts straight into your very own profile. You can also write your own blogs, get involved with our forums and stay organised by using your very own careers diary.
Check out this great video, voiced by Jay of the Inbetweeners, which explains All About Careers in a nutshell:
Most recently, All About Careers have launched their training contracts deadlines campaign, which is a list of various companies offering training contracts and their deadlines, just to make sure that you have all the information you need, and don’t miss any pesky deadlines. The benefit to you is a coherent list of deadlines, to make sure you stay in control of your applications.
The campaign can be found here: http://www.allaboutcareers.com/campaigns/training-contract-deadlines and it is a really useful tool for all law students. Not only are the training contracts listed, but there are also useful articles to read and up-to-date advice for students.
